Wageningen Marine Research chartered the Glomar Pride for conducting visual observer-based surveys for detecting and identifying birds in the marine environment. The major development of offshore wind power led to identification for environmental studies to be commissioned. The preference of the wind farm developers to site turbines in the areas of the marine bird habitats, resulted in concerns of potential negative (positive also) effects on the seabirds.
